Planning and management of working time: what are the best solutions on the market?

Are you looking for a solution for manage your employees' working time and send them weekly schedules? I have tested 4 solutions available on the market for you. here is my comparative !

Staffomatic: the first planning solution I used for 1 year

Staffomatic is a German schedule management solution. I chose it between 2015 and 2016 because it was the solution chosen by the delivery marketplaces, and their delivery people introduced me to this software.

Boomr: the time clock that I used in addition to Staffomatic

Boomr is an Anglo-Saxon solution for time clock and quantification of working time, created in 2013. I used it from 2015 to 2017, and I was fully satisfied with it, particularly for the very practical reporting that I was able to export for my accounting firm.

The only downside: at the time, it was missing features I needed, like sending messages and managing schedules (so I used Staffomatic to compensate). It seems that Boomr has since offered these features.

Snapshift: the rising Parisian start-up

Snapshift is a solution that I did not choose for my professional needs, but I was able to test it with some of my colleagues, who showed me all of its features.

Their leitmotif: simplify the administration of restaurant managers, by offering solutions for both planning and timekeeping, associated with an export file optimized for accountants.

In short, a beautiful all-in-one solution, which has the advantage of matching French legislation.

Skello: Snapshift’s direct competitor

Skello is, like Snapshift, a young French company, created by two associates from ESCP and HEC (just that). They had the idea of creating Skello when they noticed that 95% restaurateurs were making their schedules on paper, or on Excel.

They recruit a coder and develop Skello, which will spread like wildfire among restaurants and hotels. Skello is just like Snapshift a solution fully adapted to French legislation, and the reports will be optimized and ready to send to your accounting firm.

For my part, this is the option I chose. It must be said that the Skello team is super friendly and spent a lot of time training us in all the subtleties of schedule management, a large part of which concerns legislation! Finally, their support is very responsive.

Conclusion, what to choose?

Here are the solutions that I recommend depending on your needs:

  • If you are simply looking to count the working hours of a few employees, or simply yourself as a freelancer in order to invoice your clients, then Boomr is the simplest solution for you.
  • If you need a simple planning solution, without all the legal eco-system surrounding your activity (accounting reporting, etc.), then opt for Staffomatic.
  • Finally, if you are really looking for the best solution that matches your activity, both on a practical level, as well as on a financial and legal level, and you are based in France, then I advise you to opt for SnapShift or Skello, eyes closed. Between the two, it's up to you, depending on the feeling you have with the salespeople of these two start-ups.
