Should you apply for a job during the summer?

Many people think that the summer period, like that of the end-of-year holidays, is absolutely not conducive to professional applications. I will tell you bluntly: this is completely false ! So, why don't you take advantage of the last days of August to find your new job?

Why apply in the summer?

We could logically think that recruiters are part of this always impressive mass of people, who take advantage of the summer period to carry out large transhumances towards more clement skies, and that it is therefore useless to try to apply during this period. As I said above, this is not entirely accurate.
Indeed, even if the process is longer than usual, because the person in charge of recruitment had the indelicacy to take a few days off, companies continue to have needs. Why would it be otherwise? Can we seriously think that during the holidays, companies stop working? Fortunately, no! So, it is important to continue to listen to the market and apply... Especially since with new technologies, you can do all this with your feet in the water or while sipping a cocktail on the terrace. 'A coffee. What more ?
Additionally, by continuing to apply, you will demonstrate your motivation to land a new position. Don't forget that the job search is a marathon, if you take a break, it will be very difficult to start again... So, don't let up the pressure because the summer period is particularly profitable. Indeed, recruiters who return from vacation are more relaxed, so they will logically be more attentive to your needs.
Better yet, if you had the idea to stop applying over the summer, can't we imagine others will have done the same? You might as well take advantage of this short period where the “competition” is less strong, don’t you think? This is all the more important since from September onwards, young graduates just out of school (and therefore ready to work at will…) will find themselves on the job market and could well make you a career. shadow with their university background more recent than yours! It is therefore in your best interest, if you have not already done so, to take advantage of the last moments of respite, to refine your CV and seriously get back into the hunt because, and I emphasize this a little, at the beginning of September it will perhaps be be too late!

How to properly relaunch your application?

Now that you have made the (very wise) choice to apply during the summer period, you are probably wondering what to do afterwards. Indeed, it is very possible that your application remains unanswered for a certain time, but that does not necessarily mean that it is not good... Do not hesitate, from the last week of August, to come back to the recruiter to remind you of his good memories and to find out where your approach is.
That being said, prepare yourself well and above all don't put on your big clogs! It's about playing a close game... If it is highly attractive to reapply your application, because you prove that you are motivated by the position, wait at least two weeks to call the recruiter to find out if he has, at least minimum, received your application with all the documents you attached. By doing this, it is a safe bet that your interlocutor will remember you and will probably treat your application with the greatest kindness.
You can take the opportunity to discreetly inquire about the recruitment process, to find out where it is and if, unfortunately for you, the position is filled. This second piece of information, even if it does not please you a priori, is still interesting because it allows you to be fixed and above all, it allows you to bounce back, by asking your interlocutor if he has not, by biggest coincidence, another position to fill. That being said, it is obvious that under no circumstances should you harass him... No need to call every day to find out if he has processed your application! You will undoubtedly end up exasperating him which, I am sure, is not in your plans. Once you know that your application is progressing, give the recruiter time. If your profile interests him, he will undoubtedly come back directly to you!
In conclusion, contrary to what one might think, it is very important to continue applying during the summer period. That said, as the recruitment process will undoubtedly be lengthened by the holidays, do not hesitate to resubmit your application at the end of August. This will give you every chance of finding a position before the rush of September.
